Information on Flights to Bhutan

Airlines, routes and the famous landing at Paro.

Draft — for review before publishing

Flying into Paro is an unforgettable start to any journey — a winding descent between forested ridges into one of the most beautiful valleys in the Himalaya.

Airlines

Two airlines fly to Bhutan: Drukair (Royal Bhutan Airlines), the national carrier, and the privately owned Bhutan Airlines. Both operate modern aircraft and connect Paro with several cities in South and Southeast Asia.

Routes

Typical connections include Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Guwahati, Kathmandu, Dhaka, Bangkok and Singapore, with some routes seasonal. Most international travellers connect through one of these hubs.

The Paro landing

Paro's airport sits in a narrow valley at about 2,200 metres. Only a small number of specially trained pilots are certified to land there, and flights operate in daylight under visual conditions — part of what makes arriving so dramatic.

Tips

  • On the flight from Kathmandu, ask for a window seat on the left for Himalayan views
  • Book early for spring and autumn festivals
  • Allow a buffer day before long-haul connections in case of weather delays
  • We can book your Drukair or Bhutan Airlines tickets as part of your journey
