Quick answers to the questions travellers ask us most.

Answers to the questions we hear most often. If yours isn't here, just ask.

Can I travel to Bhutan independently?

You can, but outside Thimphu and Paro a licensed guide is required, and you'll need a visa arranged in advance. Most travellers find a private, tailor-made journey with a local operator the easiest and most rewarding way to visit.

How far ahead should I book?

For spring and autumn, and especially for festivals, three to six months ahead is ideal so we can secure flights and the best hotels. Shorter notice is often possible in quieter months.

How much does a journey cost?

Every journey is tailor-made, so prices depend on your dates, length of stay, accommodation and group size. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll send a detailed quotation.

Do I need to be fit?

Cultural journeys involve gentle walking. The Tiger's Nest hike is steep but manageable at your own pace. Treks need good fitness, and we'll advise honestly on which suits you.

Is Bhutan suitable for children and older travellers?

Absolutely. We adjust the pace, the driving distances and the hotels to suit every age.

Can I take photographs?

Yes, almost everywhere — except inside temples and shrine rooms. Always ask before photographing people.

Is there Wi-Fi and phone signal?

Hotels in the main towns have Wi-Fi, and local SIM cards are easy to buy. Coverage is limited in remote valleys and on treks.

What is the Sustainable Development Fee?

A daily fee paid by visitors that funds healthcare, education and conservation in Bhutan. It is included in your quotation — see Visa Formalities for details.

Can I combine Bhutan with Nepal or India?

Yes. Flights connect Paro with Kathmandu, Delhi and Kolkata, and we can help plan the connection.

Regulations and fees change from time to time; we always confirm the latest details in your quotation.
